Tyler Yelk had three tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception as the sixth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth football team beat top-ranked Grand Valley State 19-13 Saturday to adance to its first NCAA semifinal game in program history.
Yelk, a former Poynette High School athlete and UMD's all-time tackles leader, also had three pass breakups as the Bulldogs earned what will go down as the program's biggest win.
Isaac Odim scored on a 2-yard run in the second overtime to give UMD the lead.
The Bulldogs now are slated to play California (Penn.) Saturday.
Both teams failed to score in the first overtime. After Odim scored in the second overtime, the extra point try failed but Kiel Fechtelkotter intercepted a pass by Grand Valley's Brad Iciek to end the game.
Grand Valley was without leading rusher Jimmy Berezik, who was indefinitely suspended after being charged last weekend with resisting a police officer and underage possession of alcohol.
