Pardeeville senior running back Pat Banks picks up some yards on the ground in the first quarter of a 53-13 win over Oshkosh Lourdes in Pardeeville on Friday night. Banks had 220 rushing yards to help lead the Bulldogs to their fifth straight victory on the season.

PARDEEVILLE - When Pardeeville head coach Mike Haynes was getting ready this week for Friday's matchup with a pass-happy Oshkosh Lourdes team, his mind flashed back to a 1998 contest between Purdue and Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium. In that game, Purdue quarterback Drew Brees completed an amazing 55 of 83 pass attempts for 494 yards and two touchdowns. While the Boilermakers were winging the ball all over the field, the Badgers countered with a power running game and beat Purdue 31-24.

Pardeeville used a similar running game, pounding out 524 rushing yards while the visiting Knights threw the ball 29 times as the Bulldogs rolled to a 53-13 win over Oshkosh Lourdes.

"That's what these guys want to be, that's what we're going to be," said Haynes of his team's running attack. "We're going to take it as far as we can."

Pardeeville senior back Pat Banks led the charge on the ground, rushing for 220 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. Banks didn't wait long to take control of the game, running for 140 yards and two scores in the first quarter alone.

Pardeeville sophomore back Mitch Blanchard did his best Pat Banks imitation, including a matching Mohawk haircut, as he also ran for three scores on runs of 39, 75 and 47 yards. Blanchard finished the night with an impressive 184 yards on just 10 carries.

Junior fullback Michael Knutson added a 75-yard TD run, while QB Jesse Kath ran one in from 2-yards out to help the Bulldogs score eight times on the night.

"We have two or three backs that can carry the load. That's special and the line is doing a great job," said Haynes. "We lost our starting right tackles and these guys ran for 500 yards. I can't say enough."

Pardeeville's offensive line that was opening up the holes on Friday included Tanner Westbury at left tackle, Jeremey Schumann at right guard, Jesse Standiford at center, Lucas Barden at right guard and Gus Merwin at right tackle, filling in for injured starter Kyle Herbert. Clint Miller also got into the mix, spelling at center for a bit on Friday.

Haynes also gave a tip of the cap to his defense, which held the Knights to only 204 total yards off offense and forced five turnovers.

"We played a lot of zone and we've played a lot of zone all year, just to kind of get ready for this game, so we weren't out of our element like what happened to us last year (against Oshkosh Lourdes) in the second half," Haynes said. "It paid off, because they threw for quite a few yards probably, but I think we had three or four picks and they only had 13 points. That's all that matters."
