The Portage boys basketball team had a successful season opener, beating the host North Fond du Lac Orioles, 69-56 on Tuesday night in Fond du Lac.

Portage senior John Loomans scored a team-high 23 points, sophomore guard Kevin Hurd added 18 to the winning cause for Portage.

The Warriors dominated the first half, jumping out to a 40-21 lead entering the break.

Senior guard Kurt Jacobs hit six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points for the Orioles.

The Warriors, who also got a an 11-point night from Michael Bain on Tuesday, will open the Badger North Conference season at home on Friday against Sauk Prairie.
