Recognized for academics as well as play on field.
Rio seniors Alex Brewer and Matt Selje were named All-State Academic and Brewer was one of four local players to garner All-District 3 Team honors by the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association.
Brewer joined Randolph's Andrew Buss, Pardeeville's Jesse Kath and Westfield's Zach Floeter on the all-district team.
Players are nominated for all-District and all-State recognition by their coaches, who must be WBCA members and nominate their players.
Brewer and Selje first were named to the District 3 All-Academic Team, which required players to be either juniors or seniors with at least a 3.5 grade point average. They then were two of 68 players around the state named to the All-State Academic Team.
Brewer, a two-time unanimous first-team All-Trailways South pick, batted .528 this season with one home run and 18 RBIs.
Kath was a first-team all-conference pick in 2009 after batting .516 for the season and leading the Southern Trailways in batting average (.581) and finishing tied for stolen bases (11) in conference games.
Randolph junior Andrew Buss was a unanimous All-Trailways North selection after going 5-4 on the mound with a 1.20 ERA and six complete games.
Floeter was a unanimous all-conference selection in the South Central Conference as an infielder.
