Former Portage High School athlete David Mommens was recently named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics scholar athlete at Concordia University in Nebraska. Mommens was one of 74 athletes from the school, located in Seward, Neb., to earn the honor.
Mommens is currently a member of the men's track and field team at Concordia.
Student athletes must be at least juniors in academic status and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to receive this honor.
