RIO - Rio's Samantha Krebs hit consecutive 3-pointers to cut Cambria-Friesland's 17-point fourth-quarter lead to 46-43 with 35.1 seconds remaining.

Rio's Jamie Bender followed with a steal but missed a layup on the other end and Krebs' final 3-point heave was off the mark as Cambria-Friesland held on for a wild 46-43 win Saturday night at Rio High School.

Neither team found much rhythm in a game that featured 44 fouls and 45 turnovers, but the C-F took control in the third.

The Toppers went on a 14-0 run over a span of six minutes, capped by Kara Kampstra's 15 footer that gave C-F 40-23 lead with 7:15 to go in the game.

Rio, however, responded with a 14-6 run of its own, forcing seven C-F turnovers in that run.

Krebs hit back-to-back 3-pointers but Rio stalled from there.

"It was a sloppy game, I think, on each end. The kids got taken out of their rhythm both for Rio and us," Cambria-Friesland coach Larry Bylsma said.

Rio point guard Keturah Vangen sat the bench with foul trouble for most of the game. That, and C-F's well-executed press break, limited what Rio could do with its full-court press, a staple in its attack. The Vikings also missed a number of layups.

Toppers senior Brittany Bylsma had a game-high 17 points, while Krebs had 15 for Rio.

"Overall I thought my kids played hard. Showed a lot of heart," Doolittle said.
