Playing in his first collegiate event, former Portage golf standout Craig Cerbins helped the University of Wisconsin's men's golf team capture a second-place finish Tuesday at the St. Mary's Invitational at the 6,639-yard Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Cerbins had the best round of his career with a one-over 72 in round three. He finished 18-over par with a 231 (79-80-72) and tied for 76th overall.
UW senior and Beaver Dam graduate Dan Woltman had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a two-under 69 to finish in a tie for 11th with a two-over 215 (73-73-69).
As a team, the 51st-ranked Badgers were tied for third after the event's second day but shot a one-under 283 for the final round to earn their best finish in a tournament since the VCU shootout on Oct. 1-2 of last season.
The Badgers finished the tournament with an 860 (296-281-283).
Cerbins won the WIAA state championship for the Warriors in 2005.
