Pardeeville quarterback Jesse Kath carries the ball during the Bulldogs 36-21 Trailways Conference crossover game win over Randolph Friday night. Kath finished 5-of-6 passing with 194 yards and four total touchdowns.

RANDOLPH - His team face-to-face with disaster, Pat Banks refused to let his team lose.

So when Pardeeville's football team had its 23-point lead erased to a 23-21 lead in a wild third quarter, the Bulldogs senior captain responded with back-to-back touchdowns to lead Pardeeville to a 36-21 win Friday night over host Randolph in a Trailways crossover game.

"I knew I had to make a big play," said Banks, who rushed 25 times for 146 yards.

Pardeeville (1-1) dominated play in the first half as Kath ran for a 20-yard score and tossed touchdown passes of 17 and 79 yards to Carson Pawlowsky that gave the Bulldogs a 23-0 lead.

Randolph (1-1) quarterback Ben Syvertson snuck in for a 1-yard touchdown run with 5 minutes, 8 seconds to go in the first half, but Pardeeville entered halftime having allowed the Rockets just 32 total rushing yards.

In contrast, Banks rushed 19 times for 100 yards by himself in the first half and the Bulldogs totalled 287 yards.

Then came the third quarter.

Pardeeville turned the ball over on downs with the opening possession and Syvertson found Kyle Kelm four plays later for a 29-yard scoring strike.

Randolph's Kyle Katsma recovered a Banks fumble on the first play of Pardeeville's ensuing drive, but it looked like the Bulldogs would emerge unscathed when Randolph's turned it over on downs.

On Pardeeville's very next play, however, Syvertson stripped the ball from Bulldogs running back Michael Knutson, snatched it from the air and went 34 yards for a touchdown to cut Pardeeville's lead to 23-19.

Still reeling from the sudden turnaround, things got worse for Pardeeville on its next drive when it tried to put deep from its own territory, but the snap sailed into the end zone and Randolph earned the safety to make it 23-21.

Randolph took the free kick but Banks and sophomore Zach Weihert stopped Randolph's Jon Roberts short on a 4th-and-4 play to give the ball back to Pardeeville.

On a 3rd-and-long, Pardeeville quarterback Jesse Kath scrambled to his right and tossed it to Banks, who was five yards in front of him. Banks found a seam and out-ran the Rockets defense for a 69-yard touchdown.

"That play was not designed for me at all," Banks said. "I had no idea where (on the field) I was. I just caught the ball, turned, followed my blockers right in front of me and just booked it."

Randolph threatened near midfield two drives later, but sacks by Kyle Herbert and Lucas Barden forced the Rockets to turn it over on downs.

One play later Banks sealed the game by rumbling up the middle for a 33-yard touchdown run.

"It's the craziest third quarter I've been a part of," Pardeeville coach Mike Haynes said. "If they don't pull it together, they lose the ball game. Well, they did pull it together. That's what those guys have to do. They pulled together and that's what I wanted out of these non-conference games.
