Montello-Princeton outgained Dodgeland in yards 407-247, but had four turnovers as the Trojans escaped with a 34-18 win over the Phoenix in Montello on Thursday night.
Montello-Princeton QB Jake Lunow completed 30-of-42 passes for 376 yards. His favorite target was freshman Matt Sosinsky, who finished with an impressived 14 catches for 157 yards. Senior Brandon Rew also had a big night, pulling in seven balls for 111 yards and a touchdown.
Montello/Princeton co-head coach Harlan Leusink praised his team after the game. The Phoenix finished the season at 2-7 overall after going winless last year.
"I just told them they come a long way. They've improved tremendously since the first of the year," Leusink said. "The offense is really starting to click. The defense held (Steve) Schmidt, one of the leading rushers in the conference, down really well tonight (44 yards on 13 carries). You couldn't fault them for the effort. They gave everything they had. They left it all out there."
