That Clough building will just not go away, will it? This is in response to Daniel Garrigan's Monday letter regarding the building and the County Board.
We can only hope that wiser heads on the County Board will prevail and turn down the Clough building as a site for the county offices. Please remember that Mr. Garrigan is on the School Board and the School Board would really like to get rid of the Clough building and all the headaches that go with it. If it was such a wonderful building, they would keep it for their own use.
The board does not want to repair and update the building for its own administrative offices. Doesn't that tell you something? Instead they want to "give" the building to anyone who will take it for $1. How dumb do they think we are?
The only sensible action for the school board is to tear the building down. They won't do that because I think they are afraid of the few vocal people in the community who oppose tearing it down. You can fix it up all you want to, but in the end you will still have a very old building that will be a money pit forever - and an ugly one to boot.
I think the old Pick 'n Save South mall would be an ideal place for county offices. When was the last time you walked to the courthouse or to any of the other county offices? A downtown location is not necessary. And the parking around the courthouse and the annex leaves much to be desired.
