MAILBAG: Gas companies source of problems

Why are we allowing this premeditated crime to go unpunished? It continues to be unstoppable.

Why? I despise self-inflicted stupidity. Man is supposed to be the highest form of civilization, but it is so hard to believe right now. Educated idiots managing gas companies won't allow our economy to get better. They are largely responsible for the fall of our economy and now they continue to kick us when we are down. I thought abuse was illegal.

Even though gas companies profits are billions, they say the price of gas goes up so we don't use as much. How is that helping our economy if we stay home all the time? Stores, restaurants and resorts all need customers who must drive to get there. Farmers must have fuel to plant and harvest crops so there is something in the grocery stores to buy.

We wouldn't even have a problem right now if the gas companies wouldn't have caused the problem back in the 1930s. Vehicles were built with good gas mileage but gas companies bought them up so they wouldn't be sold. Only gas guzzlers were allowed to be sold, and that is largely all that has been built in this country since.

U.S. car companies wouldn't build what our people wanted. Now they are bankrupt and still haven't figured out why. Their top exec retired with a $20-plus million retirement and we have to bail them out. What a joke.

Our people do not want a $20,000 cracker box with a lot of gadgets or a four-wheeler with a roof. India can build a nice small car for $2,000, but the gas companies wouldn't let it be sold in the U.S.

President Barack Obama has so many problems to solve. One would think we people could help. They say common sense is by no means common, and they are so right.
