On May 30, a cancer fundraiser was held at Portage Country Club for Ava Schider.

The day-night event, weather included, could not have gone better. From the hospitality of Portage Country Club to the excellent food and drink provided by Suzy's restaurant, the event could not have been more successful.

The magnitude of such an event could not take place without the full support of a community as caring and giving as we live in here in Portage and the surrounding communities. From media (Daily Register and Magnum Communications) to sponsors, volunteers, clubs and organizations, friends, family and even total strangers, you were all involved to pull this off. You should be oh so very proud, not only for the enjoyment of a great day but the premise and meaning of the event - to help a young woman and her family and friends in their battle with the disease of cancer.

Our committee committed to this event back in December and it took six months of time, preparation and hard work to take it to the end.

We all want to take this time to say to all the people and groups and businesses who made it all happen, thank you. You've done a wonderful thing and you've stepped up to the plate and handled the challenge. We thank you all and you know who you are. The committee: Liz Bellmore, Mark Braska, Chris Daly, Vickie Greenwold, Mike Hurd, Michelle Kornaus, Cindy Moe, Colleen Murphy, Holly Powers and Jeanne Tentis.
