PORTAGE - Betty A. Wyman, 79, of Portage, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Residence in Fitchburg.
Betty was born June 29, 1929, in Portage, the daughter of Reinhold and Millie Fredrickson Rohde. A life-long resident of Portage, she married Russell Wyman on Oct. 29, 1949. Betty was employed at Wisconsin Power and Light in Portage, and as a secretary for the Portage Junior High School. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and reading. Betty was an active member of the Portage United Methodist Church, and a member of the Railroad Women's Club. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels for 25 years with her husband, volunteered for the American Red Cross and for election days in Portage.
Survivors include her husband, Russell of Portage; her son, James (Debbie) Wyman of Mayflower, Ark.; her daughters, Kay (Ed) Wilcox, and Peggy (Scott) Brown, both of Portage; her grandchildren, Dana (Adam) Gehrmann of Jefferson, Chad Wyman of Sun Prairie, Matt (Alicia) Brown of Rio, Mike (Nikki Hagan) Brown of Milwaukee, Jason, Megan, and Melissa Wilcox, all of Portage; her great-grandchildren, Alissa, Quintin and Kayla Gehrmann, James Wyman and Lyla Brown; her sister, Margie Allen of Madison; other relatives and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Gertrude Rohde, and her brother-in-law, John Allen.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Portage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Countryman officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
