PACKWAUKEE - Dorothy Bethel Wing, "Grandma Wing," 93, of Packwaukee, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Montello Care Center.
She was born Oct. 14, 1915, to Walton and Grace Neef Gorsuch on a farm in the town of Scott, Columbia County. Dorothy married Harry Wing on Oct. 1, 1933. Together they worked in many family-owned restaurants, the last being the Pines Café in Pearblossom, Calif. In 1978, they returned to retire in Packwaukee, where they enjoyed spending time with family and staying active in many community organizations. She was an active Packwaukee Lions Club member and in her spare time she collected and repaired old dolls as a hobby.
Dorothy is survived by four children, Donna (Dale) Walters, Packwaukee, Wanda (John) MacFarlane, Lancaster, Calif., Barbara (Gary) Johnson, Pearblossom, Calif. and Sandra Bohall, Fond du Lac. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Richard and five sisters, Rosetta Giese, Bernice Meadowcroft, Lenna Stafford, Marjorie Gleich and Thelma Herrington, two brothers, Walton and Vincent, and one brother-in-law, Wayne Wing, as well as sister-in-laws, Florence Gorsuch and Lois Wing. She is also preceded in death by great-grandsons, Cole Slama and Shane Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Crawford (formerly Steinhaus-Wachholz) Funeral Home, 453 E. Park St., Montello, with Pastor Mark Hensley officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Township of Packwaukee.
