Edwin Hell

TOWNSHIP OF NEWTON - Edwin Hell, 76, of the township of Newton, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1932, in the township of Newton, the son of Otto and Ella Muehrer Hell. Edwin married Delores Frank on May 4, 1957, in Harrisville. He spent all of his life on the family farm except the two years he served in the U.S. Army in Hawaii. Edwin was a member and past president of the Farm Bureau and FS Co-op. He was a charter and current member of the Township of Newton Volunteer Fire Department. Edwin was also an active member and secretary of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newton. He served on the Westfield School Board of Education and enjoyed woodworking and listening to polka music.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Delores; three children, Richard (Mary) Hell of Westfield, Paula (Brian) Smith of Endeavor, and Michael (Dianne) Hell of Westfield; six grandchildren, Thomas (fiancée, Michelle Goodhue) Hell, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Hell, Jessica Hell, Bradley (Chelsea) Smith, Preston Smith and James Hell; two sisters, LaVern (Arden) Pomplun of Wautoma and Elaine (Harry) Gramse of Westfield; three sisters-in-law, Carol (Orval) Vogel of Westfield, Nancy (Bill) Brakebush of Oxford and Mary (Lavern) Pomplun of Berlin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service for Edwin will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newton, with the Rev. Dale Boening officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Westfield, is serving the family.
