Ronald N. Palmquist

WISCONSIN DELLS - Ronald N. Palmquist, 74, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at his residence after a battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Warroad, Minn., to Helge and Nellie Christiansen Palmquist. He was united in marriage to Shirley St. Martin on Nov. 4, 1961, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, Minn. Ron served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1954 to 1964. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1969, with a civil engineer degree. He had worked for Twin City Testing in Minneapolis before moving to Hartland in 1972, where he worked for Wisconsin Testing, Warzyn Engineering, STS Consultants, and then owned his own business as a consulting engineer from 1991 until his retirement in December 1997. Ron retired to Wisconsin Dells about 11 years ago, where he enjoyed the woods, camping, fishing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Wisconsin Dells; daughter, Julie (Kevin) Marti of Oconomowoc; son, Neil (Kristin) Palmquist of Carbondale, Colo.; seven grandchilden, Kyle, Jenna, Leah and Luke Marti, and Anders, Beck and Cole Palmquist; sister, Lorraine Westley of Bloomington, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Dillon and Delphine Bowman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck and the Rev. Jeffrey Teeple co-officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Town of Oconomowoc Cemetery, Oconomowoc. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Picha Funeral Home, Portage, is assisting the family.
