Between 7 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 25) and 7 a.m. Monday, police responded to 167 calls, including two emergency detentions, a domestic disorderly conduct arrest and a domestic battery arrest. Police also cited 14 students for truancy; the incidents occurred some time in the previous two months.

Wal-Mart parking lot, 2950 New Pinery Road: At 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, police investigated a suspicious package left in a car. The package turned out to be garbage, police said.

Intersection at Wauona and Townsend streets: Police at 3:33 a.m. Wednesday stopped a vehicle for an improper stop. The driver, Cle A. Gray, 35, of Portage, was arrested and charged with drunken driving as a second offense after he reportedly registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.107 on a preliminary Breathalyzer test, police said. The legal level to drive in Wisconsin is 0.08. A passenger in the car, Craig A. Warzynski, 27, of Portage, was arrested for violation of the no-drink provision of his probation. Both were taken to the Columbia County Jail.

Sharpshooters parking lot, 2520 W. Wisconsin St.: At 1:58 a.m. Thursday, police investigated a report of men preparing for and engaging in fights in the parking lot. Police arrested Nicholas J. Kleifgen, 25, of Wisconsin Dells for operating after revocation as a fourth offense when officers saw him driving a vehicle. He was taken to the Columbia County Jail.

Intersection of Highway 51 and Southtown Road: At 11:43 p.m. Sunday, police stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver, Jennifer A. Smith, 33, of Pardeeville, was arrested for drunken driving after she reportedly registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.12 on a preliminary Breathalyzer test, police said. The legal level to drive in Wisconsin is 0.08.

2400 block of Hamilton Street: Police at 9 a.m. Sunday took a report of vandalism to a vehicle. A white truck was hit with three paint balls while parked on the street. Police also noted six other vehicles, parked in the 500 block of Evergreen Trail, the 500 block of Meadowlark Lane, and the 500 block of Winnebago Avenue, were struck by paint balls.

Intersection of North Evergreen and Hamilton streets: At 9:22 a.m. Sunday, police noticed damage to a stop sign and a mailbox. Both were hit by paint balls, police said.

Portage Police Department, 117 W. Pleasant St.: Police Nov. 18 took a report of the fraudulent use of a credit card that occurred earlier in November. A total of $70.26 was charged in unauthorized transactions.
