Between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday, police responded to 47 calls.

Steve's Auto Repair, 101 DeWitt St.: Police at 11 a.m. Wednesday took a report of a theft. A car stereo with a CD player worth $200 was stolen from an unlocked Chevrolet truck sometime between 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Wal-Mart, 2950 New Pinery Road: At 10:46 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call from customer service at Wal-Mart reporting that a customer was the possible victim of a scam. A customer was sent a check saying he had won money in a Canadian lottery and was asked to send $3,000 to cover his taxes. The customer did not send the check, police said.

1900 block of New Pinery Road: Police at 2:03 p.m. Wednesday stopped a vehicle that reportedly had damaged front headlights and signal lights. The driver of the vehicle, Justin D. Stendahl, 24, of Madison, was cited for operating without a license as a second offense. The owner of the vehicle, Kristine Shier, 35, of Portage, was cited for permitting an unauthorized person to drive. Stendahl was taken to the Columbia County Jail on a probation hold, police said.

Mobil Travel Plaza, 2725 New Pinery Road: At 1:51 p.m. Wednesday, police took a report of the theft of signs from the gas station's parking lot. A sign for St. John's craft sale and one for Bethlehem Lutheran Church, both worth $50, were taken sometime after Oct. 8, police said.

John Muir School, 2600 Woodcrest Drive: A police officer, on patrol at 12:48 a.m., reported graffiti on a west wall of the school near a door to the gymnasium.

Chamber of Commerce parking lot: At 1:52 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of underage drinkers. Lysa M. Francis, 19, of Portage, was cited for underage drinking after she registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.043 on a preliminary Breathalyzer test, according to police..

100 block of East Pleasant Street: At 8:46 p.m. Wednesday, police took a report of vandalism. A political sign was damaged sometime between Thursday and Saturday, police said.

2900 block of New Pinery Road: Police at 2:14 a.m. Thursday took a report of a possible intoxicated driver. Jason A. Murphy, 23, of Pardeeville, was arrested and charged with drunken driving and operating without a license after he reportedly registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.23 on a preliminary Breathalyzer test. The legal limit to drive in Wisconsin is 0.08. He was released to a responsible party, police said.
