Authorities are in touch with family members of the rural Lodi man found dead near Summerville Park Road on Saturday.
Columbia County Sheriff Dennis Richards said in a press release that the aunt of Brian K. McCarra, 39, contacted Medical Examiner Angela Hinze on Tuesday evening.
McCarra's aunt, who lives in Minnesota, arranged to notify McCarra's immediate family, including his father, who lives in Mississippi.
McCarra, who lived in Lodi for five months and in Wisconsin for about three years, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Richards.
McCarra was discovered by a passer-by about 3:30 p.m. Saturday not far from his rural Lodi home, but had no identification on him, prompting a plea Saturday asking for help in finding the identity of the man.
The mother of the man's roommate heard that information and called her son, who went to the sheriff's office late Saturday with a picture of the man, confirming his identity, Richards said.
The sheriff's office issued another plea Monday after having difficulty contacting McCarra's family members.
