A Portage man was killed Friday morning when he was struck by a delivery truck backing up along Schultz Street in Portage.
About 11 a.m., Robert Little, 86, was struck by a Spee-Dee delivery truck driven by Leonard Nigh, 31, of Plover.
According to Detective Lt. Mark Hahn of the Portage Police Department, Nigh had just made a delivery on Schultz Street near the intersection of Klemp Street and was backing up when he struck Little.
It is unknown what Little was doing before he was hit.
Little was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbia County Medical Examiner Angela Hinze.
"There's nothing right now that would indicate that this was anything more than an accident," Hahn said.
Hahn said he was not aware of the Spee-Dee truck having any reverse sounds or lights, but he said the accident is under investigation.
Little was a resident of Deer Run Apartments at 2345 Schultz St. He lived alone and served as on-site manager of the apartment complex, said tenant Robert Tollison.
"It's a really sad thing," Tollison said. "Everyone here knew him."
The Portage Police Department was assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Columbia County Medical Examiner, Divine Savior EMS and Portage Fire Department.
